Ben Brasfield is the firm's primary family law practitioner, focusing on cases of all types, but especially divorce, child custody and visitation, child support, spousal support and equitable distribution (division of property). After graduating from the University of Dayton School of Law, Ben joined a legal aid organization in Fredericksburg and represented victims of domestic violence in their family law matters and requests for protective orders. Thereafter, Ben joined a small family law firm in Fairfax before serving as an Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney (prosecutor) for Fairfax County.
As a prosecutor, Ben was assigned to the Domestic Violence docket and handled cases ranging from misdemeanors to violent felonies. He conducted more than one dozen jury trials and dozens of bench trials.Ben's experience as a prosecutor allows him to understand how
domestic violence can affect both criminal and family law cases.
After leaving the prosecutor's office, Ben joined another small
family law firm in Fairfax, where he handled both family law and criminal defense matters. While he primarily handles family law matters with Dycio & Biggs, Ben remains more than capable of defending clients against criminal charges or protective orders and guiding them through any type of case where allegations of domestic violence are made.
Outside of work, Ben enjoys spending time with his wife, two young boys, and golden retriever. He supports Liverpool FC and volunteers with the Screaming Eagles, a DC United fan group.
